Allergies in Children - Keep Kids Healthy
True food allergies are not as common as most people
believe and only affect about 2% of children, although they are more common in
younger children (affecting about 5-8% of younger children). And fortunately,
most younger children will outgrow these food allergies by the time they are
three years old.

Allergic
to cats?
Cat allergy can be very heartbreaking to a cat
lover. Sneezing, tearing eyes, runny nose, sinus headache, skin rash,
and other symptoms can be mild and annoying or severe and life
threatening. In reality, if the symptoms are very severe and the cause
is tested and found to be cats, finding the cat a new home might turn
out to be the only solution. However if the symptoms are moderate or
mild, there is hope! There are methods to at least minimize the
discomforts of allergies and live with a cat, and immunotherapy
offers desensitization from an allergen.
About.com
- Allergic to Cats
Approximately two percent of the United States
population is allergic to cats. One third of these ignore medical
advice and keep at least one cat in their home. A glycoprotein, Fel d
1, secreted by the sebaceous glands, is the major cat allergen. This
allergen is found in the fur, pelt, saliva, serum, urine, mucous,
salivary glands, and hair roots of the cat. The main sources of the
allergen, however, are the skin and saliva.
